Jack Hawke is a prominent figure in the North Carolina Republican Party. Hawke served as state GOP chair from 1987 to 1995.
Hawke’s experience in government does not merely extend to holding political office: he is also known for his legal problems with the United States government.
In the case of US v Caudle, Jack Hawke was found guilty of…
…the commission of an act as an employee of the United States affecting a personal financial interest, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 208(a), in that he had a prospective employment interest and financial interest in Brevard Wood Products
…making a false statement as to a material fact in a matter within the jurisdiction of the United States, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1001, by submitting to the Economic Development Administration A Feasibility Study for Brevard Wood Products, Inc., which included the allegedly false statement that the study was prepared by Albert Levy Associates, Inc.
In short, Hawke tried to make money by importing South American wood into the United States by falsifying an economic report. He later appealed the case.
